Hello, and welcome to Mallards Movies – we’re glad you’re here. Mallards Movies began with two guys who loved to watch movies, write, and make jokes about them. If you’re here, there’s a good chance you enjoy those things as well.
The format of the blog is simple: At the beginning of each month, eight movies are randomly generated using a random movie list generator (currently https://randommer.io/random-movies). These movies are totally random – they can be any genre and from any year. After eight films have been generated, there’s a schoolyard-style draft, with each Mallard selecting a film alternatingly. Each Mallard then watches the movie (usually more than once), and writes a review of it, noting interesting historical tidbits, what was good about the film, and what was bad about the film. At the Mallard’s discretion, each film can also be nominated for a year-end superlative, such as “most confusing plot”, “worst line of dialogue”, “best cinematography”, and others.
The goal is to have fun, watch some films to which we would otherwise not have been exposed to, and share our thoughts with our lovely and very smart readers. Below you’ll find short biographical information about the Mallards themselves, as well as contact information to give us feedback.
Thanks for coming along on the ride – and keep soaring.

Maxwell – Maxwell is a native of Tennessee, and studied film at the University of Tennessee. A writer by trade and a musician by misfortune, Maxwell enjoys the arts in all their forms, and likes sharing his opinions and discussing the opinions of others. Maxwell’s tastes are broad and far-reaching, but he gravitates towards avant-garde, postmodern themes as well as foreign films. Some of his favorite films are Umberto D (1952), Nosferatu (1922), and The French Dispatch (2021).
Seann – Seann is a native of Washington, and has been watching movies as far back as he can remember. A painter, a sometimes writer, and a musician (in a very loose use of the term.) I am always watching or listening and consuming new (to me) art and discussing it with friends and even occasionally in online forums. Seann is a fan of anything that is “good” but is also a picky person. His tastes will surprise you, and his reactions and reviews to the movies we watch along with the characterization and plots will always be an interesting breath of fresh air. Seann loves dramas, comedies, horror films, as well as foreign films. Some of his favorites include Fantasic Mr Fox (2009), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), and Mars One (2022)
